Understanding How Your Genetics Influence Medication Response
Genetic testing for medications helps us understand how your body is biologically wired to process and respond to certain treatments. Although many individuals may be prescribed the same medications for similar conditions, no two bodies process medications in the same way. These differences are influenced by your genetic makeup and help explain why a medication may be effective for one person but ineffective or poorly tolerated by another.
How Genetic Testing Guides Medication Selection and Dosing
This testing identifies specific genetic patterns that affect how medications are absorbed, metabolized, and utilized in the body. With this information, your provider can make more informed decisions about medication selection and dosing, prioritizing treatments that are more likely to be effective and better tolerated for you. Without genetic testing, treatment can sometimes feel like repeated trial and error, when in reality a medication may simply not be compatible with your individual biology.
A Clinical Tool to Support More Personalized Care
Genetic testing does not guarantee a perfect medication, nor does it replace clinical judgment. Instead, it serves as an additional clinical tool that provides deeper insight into how your body functions. When combined with your medical history, current symptoms, and treatment response, it allows for a more precise, personalized, and safer approach to care.
Reducing Failed Medication Trials and Treatment Delays
In addition to medication response, genetic testing can identify certain genetic predispositions, such as MTHFR variants, which play a role in how the brain regulates neurotransmitters. When these variants are present, targeted interventions, such as supplementation with L-methylfolate, may be recommended to support brain chemistry and improve overall treatment response. This allows treatment to be more biologically targeted rather than generalized.
In simple terms, genetic testing provides your provider with a clearer blueprint. It removes much of the guesswork from prescribing, helps treatment feel more individualized, and supports better long-term outcomes.
Targeted Interventions Based on Genetic Findings
We offer convenient, rapid in-office drug screening at all five of our locations, allowing for timely results when testing is needed.
This testing is billed through your insurance, similar to other major laboratory services such as LabCorp or Quest. The laboratory works directly with your insurance to ensure proper coverage and billing.
Insurance Coverage and Out-of-Pocket Costs
Genetic testing is typically covered by insurance when medically indicated. Coverage and patient responsibility vary by insurance plan; however, for most patients, the maximum out-of-pocket cost does not exceed $295.
If an out-of-pocket balance applies, the laboratory works directly with patients to ensure testing remains accessible. Flexible payment plans are available, allowing costs to be spread out over time if payment in full is not feasible. Our goal is to provide clinically valuable testing without creating unnecessary financial burden.
Where Genetic Testing Can Be Completed
