ABOUT

I am Danielle Burgess, a master’s prepared registered nurse pursuing a degree as a nurse practitioner in psychiatric mental health (PMHNP) with the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. I began my nursing career in 2000 with an associate degree in nursing; in 2007, I continued my education with BSN-MSN at Regis University and graduated in 2010. I am originally from Philadelphia and moved to Colorado in 2005. In Colorado, I started working at St. Anthony’s Central in the float pool, transferred to the neuro/trauma unit, and then promoted to unit educator. Other areas in which I have worked in nursing include float pool, neuro/trauma, telemetry, PCU, cardiac-procedural, open-heart surgery, education, management, and charge nurse.

I found a passion for mental health when my son was being treated for multiple psychiatric disorders and adolescent concerns at school, such as bullying, violence, weight shaming, and gender identity. I wanted to contribute to creating a more positive and supportive environment for those with mental health issues, helping break the stigma associated with these conditions, and providing evidence-based care to improve mental health patients' outcomes.

FUN FACT

When I traveled to Colorado from Philadelphia, my husband went ahead of me and my three children – my daughter was recovering from RSV. I traveled by car, with three children under three years old, with my mother.

Now, we have been in Colorado for 19 years. I have since divorced (pandemic events) and have three children—Jack, 22, Austin, 20, and Reese, 19. I miss home, love football and my Eagles (I watch them every Sunday/MNF/TNF), love traveling to Hawaii, and you cannot beat Colorado weather! This is Me!
